Denver Children's Theatre - Cinderella

Organization:
Date/Time:
Sun, 05/02/2010 - 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Experience one of the greatest children’s stories of all time in an enchanting new adaptation. Based on the classic tale, playwright Charles Way completely reinvents Cinderella for the modern stage. Set in Germany at the time when a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was trying to become a court composer, the healing power of art and friendship is explored in this timeless tale of family, love and loss. Indeed time itself, as in music, is key to the emotional sequence of events as the young Cinderella tries to overcome grief and find a new life in rapidly changing times. This version features a more human Cinderella who is struggling with the loss of her mother; more likeable stepsisters who are adjusting to less opulent surroundings; a more sympathetic prince who befriends Cinderella disguised as a peasant; the prince’s best friend, the musical genius Mozart; an odd King who has not been out of bed in four years; a warmer, though still wacky, fairy godmother, who is present throughout in the form of a bird; and a flawed, but not totally evil, stepmother.  Thematically, the story offers lessons about acceptance, grief, diversity, coming of age, class struggles and the triumph over injustice. This stirring rendition of Cinderella is sure to ignite the imagination in us all! This show is intended for children ages 5 to 12.
