Wake Up and Taste the Torah
Taste of Torah gives young children of all abilities and the adults that love them an opportunity to get to know the torah. For most of us growing up the torah was something that we saw from afar and never really got to know until we were older, usually around the time of our Bar or Bat Mitzvah. But for these children who have the chance to see, touch and “taste” the torah, they are beginning a love of torah that will hopefully last them their entire lives.
During “Taste of Torah” the children sing and listen to a story about the “Parsha” or portion of the week. They do a craft activity that also relates to the Parsha, have a snack of challah and juice and finally it is time to “taste” the torah. The children gather around the table and gently one at a time take their yadayim (pointers) and begin finding letters that they know and begin to learn new letters.
So now we are training a new generation of torah “scholars”. Children who in the future will know that the torah belongs to them and that it is their heritage. It will become their past, their present and their future. It will become their responsibility as the torah says to “teach it diligently to their children.”
Wake Up and Taste the Torah is held at B'nai Chaim in Morrison, (4716 S. Coors Lane)
