Adventure Rabbi can be described as a synagogue without walls. Founded in November 2001, the goal is to bring Jews back into communal religious life, through innovative religious programs, which combine the outdoors and Jewish practice.

People of all ages, singles, couples, and families, come from all over the country (but especially Colorado) to join together to learn, celebrate and create a new kind of Jewish community. Our retreats include Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Ski Retreat and Passover. We also feature Destination Bar & Bat Mitzvah ceremonies for Bar / Bat Mitzvah candidates.

In between retreats, we join for monthly Shabbat events, holidays, and informal events found on our Social Networking site. In general, we are a "pay as you go" community, but we do rely heavily on donations and grants in order to sustain our community.

Adventure Rabbi is philosophically and theologically aligned with Progressive Judaism in general and the Reform and Reconstructionist Movements, more specifically. We are dedicated to creating opportunities to enhance our participants relationship with self, community and God. We provide a Jewish backdrop and context for their lives and through positive, communal Jewish experiences improve our participants sense of Jewish identity.

The Adventure Rabbi program is led by Rabbi Jamie Korngold, author of the best selling book, God in the Wilderness. (Doubleday, 2008).

The brit bat is the covenant ceremony that parallels the boy's brit milah. In this ceremony we welcome a new baby girl into the world with thanks and blessing and give her a Hebrew name.

Generally, we hold this ceremony one month after the baby is born, rather than the eight days of the boy's brit milah. However, since this ceremony is a modern invention, there is no time set for the ceremony.

The service is generally held in the home, with a small gathering of friends and family. The service can be personalized with songs and readings chosen by the parents. We share stories about the meaning of the baby's name and the person for whom the baby is named, as well as ways in which we pray the baby will be like him or her. The service generally lasts 20 minutes and may be followed by a light breakfast or luncheon.

We welcome the opportunity to work with all kinds of families to celebrate the beginning of their child's life. The charge for planning and facilitating this ritual is $600 in Boulder and $650 in Denver or any other area within an hour's drive from Boulder.

Please contact Rabbi Korngold jamie@adventurerabbi.com or 303.417.6200 ext. 10 for more information or to plan your ceremony.

The bris or brit milah, is the covenant ceremony in which we welcome a baby boy into the world with thanks and blessing. A mohel performs the circumcision and the rabbi blesses the newborn and gives him a Hebrew name.

Generally, we hold this ceremony eight days after the baby is born, as commanded in the Torah.

Adventure Rabbi: Synagogue Without Walls leads retreats for B'nai Mitzvah Classes, Sisterhoods, and other Jewish groups in search of deeply spiritual experiences, integrating Judaism and the outdoors.

Imagine working together as a team to reach the summit of a peak and then shouting the Shecheyanu from the mountain-top.

Imagine praying the morning service in an alpine meadow, while watching elk feed in the distance.

Imagine studying ancient texts about Jewish mystics wandering in the desert, while climbing through red rock canyons.

Our unique weekend adventures provide opportunities for us to deepen our relationship with ourselves, our community, and our Creator.

Gather a group of up to 25 of your family and friends for this spiritual hiking adventure. The cost is $500. Please contact Rabbi Korngold jamie@adventurerabbi.com or 303.417.6200 ext. 10 for more information or to plan your adventure.
